Portraits
Self portrait
This portrait was completed around 1996. It was to feature my outer and inner world. What a mess it turned out! My interest in windows is already apparent as they float in the internal plane.
Mercury
Mercury and I have been in the same fine arts class, dreaming about Van Gogh. Nearly a quarter of a century later we reconnected and found that we have not changed a bit. With pandemic, I painted Mercury's portrait from his photos because posing live is not an option yet, not to mention that he lives about 43 hours away from me by car.
Dr. V
I like to infuse my portraits with features representative of a person. Most are in the face others in background.
Olga
It took me approximately 10 years to complete this paining. Mostly because I was afraid to get it wrong. Olga is a musician and my closest friend. I intended to transcribe her creative and powerful character in this paining.
Ronny
Ronny and I studied chemistry and biology together. We spend many evenings over books and study halls and library. He had an intense character and love for biology that I am sure carried him to create many great things. We parted ways after graduation from UCSB.
Character captured
This is a portrait of a very colorful person. Completed in a Russian forest with water colors on paper. The expression was captured in just a few strokes and this was one of those spaces in time where I felt completely at a balance with my skill.
Dorje
A portrait of a close family friend who possesses unique powers of insight into human sole. My ever shifting focus on an external and internal features and blending of one with the world are attempted here. I never know if it worked. I figure it is the job of the audience.
Dr. V
My friend is such a multidimensional person that I had to complete multiple portrait of her. I am still not satisfied. How does one captures a persona who is as big as the world?
Kirstein
Kirstain is floating in her music when she is not busy with her surgeries.
Commissioned portrait #1
The parents of this young girl asked me to complete this portrait back in 2000. I did 2 portraits to capture her beautiful face.
Commissioned portrait #2
This is the second portrait with a different view.
Daughter of the earth
One of my younger students worked on her portrait with me. She designed the artwork color scheme, constructed proportions and made the hair design. I finished the portrait but consider it a collective effort!
Modern art wheel
The name is symbolic for innovation, movement forward in art. Perhaps addition "modern" was an overkill but that domain name was available in the shopify system, so I took it.
